This trip, I went solo to this beautiful country - South Korea in Aug 2016. Since it was maybe 5 - 8 years ago, I had to get my research done all over again to get the latest information about Seoul.
Usually below are my list of research:
3. Weather Forecast details
4. Currency update
5. Visa requirement
7. Maps/ directions
8. Intended routes plan
9. A list of MUST-VISIT destinations and Optional locations
10. A list of MUST-EAT cuisines & Optional food
11. A list of MUST-BUY items & Optional list
I booked a hotel in Myeongdong which was just right in front of the airport shuttle bus station so I just bought a bus limousine ticket upon arrival at the counter. The bus stations are all outside the Incheon Airport so I just waited at one of the stations 6015.
For return trip to Airport, I just asked for the schedule and hopped on the 6015 bus with cash. If you have lots of tax to claim for refund, please make sure you leave earlier.
The Airport Bus Limousine was incredible with spacious executive style chair, it was extremely comfortable and you can adjust it to incline position and take a nap. I took a short nap until the automatic audio announced the stations' names and hotels.
Transportation in Seoul
You can purchase Cashbee or T-Money for the public transportation such as subways and buses. There are some minor differences between these two cards so I just chose whichever I could find to the nearest shop from my hotel.
I ended up withT-money to travel around Seoul, bought it just at a convenient store nearby. There was a range of adorable designs to choose from, the card itself costed 2,500 Won (non-refundable) and I topped up approx 20,000 Won for my 5 days trip.
How did I calculate that?
Well, it costed 1,250 won for each trip for subway (I intended to only take subway as a transportation in Seoul) and I was planning to take 2-4 trips per day if I visit two locations per day (i.e. Myeongdong to Ewha Women University, then to Hongdae and back to Myeongdong) so 20,000 Won should be more than enough to cover my trip.
1,250 Won x 3 trips per day x 5 days = 18,750 Won (I still have one more 1,250 Won trip to go!)
This is just an indication for your reference, the costs may change from time to time according to the transportation companies and inflation so please always check with the official companies for latest information.
Subway Map 2016
A country rich in history, culture. If you have never tried the delicious Korean food, it's colourful culture, or perhaps check out the plastic surgery industry - this definitely is a popular destination for Asia.
